The berlin ball is a traditional cake similar to the German Berliner, whose recipe arrived in Portugal during the Second World War at the hands of Jewish refugees and became an instant success. Like the German sweet, it is sprinkled with sugar, but while the Berliner is garnished with mainly red sweets (strawberry, raspberry, etc.), the berlin ball is filled with pastry cream.
